Here is a great article by Kelly Baggett on many of the different types of isometrics that can be done, in particular, isometrics using weights : http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/kelly22.htm
Excellent article in that it lists many different types of isos that can be done. One interesting thing I noticed is that Kelly states that he prefers yielding isos (holding a weight statically in a certain position for a predetermined amount of time) in place of over coming isos (pushing or pulling against an immovable object). For purposes of bodybuilding, I would tend to agree with this, however, I feel it is important to also utilize some overcoming isos. The greater stress that overcoming isos place upon connective tissues such as tendons and ligaments should not be viewed as a negative, since this exact stress is what helps to build up tendon and ligament strength.
