When you use a resistance band, and hold an isometric contraction with the band stretched at the maximum-tension point, in essence you "download" the energy from the stretched band into your muscles and tendons through something that we may term "kinetic recoil." The application to speed of muscle contraction is obvious. It's like when you stretch a rubber band out and then let it go. It snaps back with high velocity because of the built up energy in the band.
